The Ultimate Guide To Choosing Your Wedding Flowers

So you’ve got the screenshots, you’ve shown your friends, you’ve trolled the gram, spent countless hours Pinning, it’s go time right? well, not quiet. Before you start meeting with wedding florists, armed with that Kim K photo of her 20ft wall of white flowers, here’s what you need to consider:

  • The Venue
When it comes to choosing floral ensembles, it’s important to factor in the venue and the overall wedding theme. If your reception is already pretty, and your on a budget, keep it simple! let’s face it, classic trumps OTT any day. Now, we’re not talking boring ladies, simply simple. You might not need that large floral centerpiece, think outside the box and use candles, vases and rose petals to recreate classic looks. Speak to your Venue manager and see what inclusions are part of your package.
  • The Dress
Ladies, you need to choose flowers that work with your dress, not against it. A good florist will help you with this part. Just remember, and write this down ‘flowers should complement your dress and theme, not play a staring role’ that’s for you honey! Ways to combat this? we love monotone!. We suggest an all white bouquet. Think about it, if a bride is dressed in white/ivory and is walking down the isle, holding a red bouquet, where do you think your eyes will be drawn to first? again, keep it simple not boring.
  • Seasonal Flowers
We suggest having an open mind when it comes to selecting the types of flowers you want for your wedding. The benefits of selecting seasonal is that they will be fresher and more fragrant, as these are locally sourced and not shipped from all corners of the globe. Other reasons? well they’re a lot cheaper and come in a variety of colours meaning they will complement your wedding themes.
  • Variety
Have you considered having a bouquet made up of one type of flower? it’s stylish and affordable. Often your florist will buy in bulk so limiting the variety of flowers can reduce the costs drastically. Often florists are bound by minimum order limits, this could well mean that 30 red flowers are purchased and only 5 are used based on the bouquet selection. The remaining 25 roses are then wasted when really, you could order say 300 white roses and use them all.  If budgets aren’t of too much concern, go to town ladies!
  • Reuse
Girls! we suggest reusing your ceremony flowers to get the most bang for your buck. They make for great pieces near cakes, bridal tables and walk ways.
